Can an LLC deduct an owner's personal car just because the business paid for it?
No. The payment source does not control the deduction.
The better question is whether the vehicle was used for business and, if so, how much of that use was business rather than personal. An LLC can own the car, but that does not convert family commuting, grocery runs, or school pickups into deductible use.
Fresh example:
- Harbor Slate Media LLC buys a crossover for
48,000. - The owner uses it
20%for client visits and80%for personal driving.
That fact pattern points toward either limited business-use treatment or disallowance of the personal portion. The exam is testing business purpose, not the letters LLC.
