Why can a married couple with two W-2 jobs still owe a lot at tax time even when both jobs withhold?
This confuses me because people assume that if both spouses have taxes withheld from every paycheck, the return should come out about even. But I keep seeing couples owe thousands anyway. I want to understand where the gap comes from and how to fix it prospectively.
