Is Mark Meldrum worth the cost for CFA prep?
I have heard great things about his videos but I am paying for Schweser already. Can I justify both?
For most candidates, yes, especially if Quant, Derivatives, FRA, or Fixed Income are weak areas.
What Mark Meldrum does well:
- Pace and engagement. The videos are dense but well-organized. Most candidates retain more from his teaching style than from text-only notes.
- Quant Methods explanations. Hypothesis testing, regression, and time value get clearer treatment than in many summary providers.
- FRA pensions and intercompany at Level 2.
- Derivatives across all three levels.
When Mark Meldrum is not worth it:
- You learn better from reading than video.
- You already use the CFA Institute LES videos and find them adequate.
- You are reviewing for a retake and already understand the concepts.
A common cost-effective approach: Schweser Notes as the spine of your reading, Mark Meldrum videos for the specific topics where you struggle, the LES for official questions and mocks. The total cost is moderate and the coverage is strong.
