What should I do if the wrong return was e-file accepted?
A planning copy was transmitted instead of the final return, and the IRS accepted it. What is the EA workflow before sending anything else?
Start by treating the accepted return as a filed return on the IRS account. Do not assume another original e-file will replace it.
The immediate workflow is:
If the deadline has not passed, evaluate whether current IRS rules allow a superseding correction. If the deadline has passed, an individual return usually points toward Form 1040-X. In either case, keep the authorization and transcript record tight.
